Seven Reasons Why You Should “Barre Hop”:

Angie Omata

Posted on January 20 2016

I’d like to start out by saying that if you’re a current barre fanatic or “BarreBestie” and love your studio, then stay!! This article goes out to gals who has tried a barre class and for some reason never went back.

Barre is an amazing workout for everyBODY, and I love that I get to do it about 10 times a week. It’s been over a year since I started teaching barre, and I’m even more obsessed than ever. So here are seven reasons why you should barre hop and try out a new studio.

1. Barre is not a one size fits all….

There are so many variations of barre. You’ll realize that when you try multiple studios or try some pre-recorded classes at home. Some classes offer more of a ballet feel while others feel like pilates or yoga. Some classes are low impact and some have more cardio aspects. Find what YOU like. No matter the variation, it’s still a great workout.

2. After paying for a membership you still need to eat….

So, you decided to try out a barre class because you had a Groupon or they offered the first class for free. But you check the regular class prices and you start to wonder if you need to take out a second mortgage. You think if you pay those prices, your wallet, not just your thighs, will be hurting after class. Always think about your priorities first.  You’ll find a variety of pricing from one studio to the next, and you should be able to find the one that doesn’t break your bank.

3. Try a variety of classes…

If your studio is the only place you work out and you go a lot, then you’ll want some variety. Don’t get me wrong, barre should be the focus of the studio, but throwing in a weekly yoga class, some cardio, or some fun group events will keep you interested and allow you to change up your workout. Barre classes should always be changing the moves to keep the workout challenging. Look for a studio that provides variety. You should never feel bored.

4. Scheduling conflict?

Sometimes people stop going to a studio because the schedule just doesn’t fit with them. Studios that aren’t exclusively barre may only have a limited amount of barre classes. If the first studio doesn’t mesh with your schedule, it might be time to barre hop. Sometimes finding a studio that fits you perfectly comes down to finding the schedule that fits you perfectly.

5. Your instructor isn’t your biggest cheerleader…

The main point of an instructor is to keep you going. No matter what kind of day they’re having, their job is to motivate and train you. If you don’t consider your barre instructor a friend, then maybe it’s time to barre hop. A good instructor will make you want to come to class, get you excited to work your ass off, and, most of all, help you be a better you!! Barre should make you feel like you’re on top of the world after class.  I honestly love all our clients – a.k.a. my BarreBesties!

6. Speaking of BarreBesties….

Have you made a ton of new friends at your current studio? Is your favorite spot saved for you before you get to class? What’s better than just hanging out with your friends AND getting healthy at the same time? Find where you fit in! Not all clientele are the same, and your vibe attracts your tribe. You should find a studio that feels just like going to your friend’s house. Yes, your studio can feel that comfortable, and it should!

7. Your studio should have all the latest barre trends….

Barre is not only one of the best workouts, it’s got some of the best dressed instructors and clientele! And the best studios have the best in-studio boutiques. Sticky socks, clever tanks, and colorful legging sales are soaring, thanks to the popularity of barre. Find a studio that supplies you with the latest trends, and don’t forget www.simplyworkout.com has the latest and greatest of barre fashions!!

So when you’re ready, search your city, check MindBody or ask around. You’ll find where you fit, it just might not be after your first class.

See you at the barre,
