Berries, Cherries, and Pomegranate Seeds

Berries, Cherries, and pomegranate seeds are a wonderful addition to a healthy diet. They are some of the most nutrient-dense fruits in existence. On top of tasting delicious, they offer numerous health benefits.

According to Dr. Joel Fuhrman, a family physician and nutritional researcher, berries, cherries, and pomegranate seeds contain high levels of nutrients, phytochemicals, and fiber. These all play an important role in preserving your health.

There are significant health benefits due to the high level of antioxidants present in these fruits. Some of these include a reduction in heart disease risk, protection from certain cancers, improvement in brain function, pain reduction and exercise recovery, improvement in sleep, and a reduction in uric acid (gout).

Some simple ways to incorporate berries, cherries, and pomegranate seeds into your diet are smoothies, fruit salads, toppings for oatmeal, fruit compote, and non-dairy ice cream.

Here’s a fun way my family and I include these nutritional powerhouses into our diet.

Raspberry Banana Ice Cream

2 bananas, frozen chopped
1 C raspberries or mixed berries, frozen
1/4 C non-dairy milk

Pomegranate seeds

Add bandanas, berries, and non-dairy milk into a high powered blender or food processor. Mix until thick and creamy.

Add toppings of choice. Enjoy.
