A Chat With a Beautycounter Expert

I recently noticed that those subtle lines that have been creeping across my forehead are suddenly a lot more deep and rigid than I previously thought. And those tiny little creases under my eyes… not so tiny anymore. What happened? I’m only 25 and all of the sudden I look like an adult! I’ve even stopped getting carded! Okay, that part isn’t true; I still get carded.

Over the past few months I have been getting serious about my skincare regimen. Every morning, its cleanser, toner, moisturizer, SPF, and make up only every few days. Every evening: cleanser, exfoliating cleanser, toner, mask one, maybe mask two, moisturizer, eye cream, and maybe even serum. This is serious. In this new routine, I’ve tried about a dozen different masks, all promising to make me beautiful. I’ve been using the Korean sheet masks, and they’re fun, but I’m not convinced they do anything. But recently, I discovered the holy grail of face masks. Beautycounter’s Purifying Charcoal Mask is worth its weight in gold, and by gold I mean the $45 price tag.

Beautycounter has been making big waves in the skincare market recently. Over the summer, the natural skincare company launched its Target collaboration and among the standout products was their charcoal mask. It works to purify your skin by extracting oil and grime from those hardest-to-clean pores. You can watch it work its magic! As the mask itself dries, the oil from your pores creates dots in the mask, and you can see it work right before your eyes.

One of the great things about Beautycounter is their direct sales business model. I find being able to talk to someone I know and I like about skincare is super helpful when I’m trying to figure out what I need. My friend Meaghan has been selling Beautycounter products through her Facebook page and website, and she got me hooked. I talked to Meaghan about what she loves about Beautycounter and what makes this mask so popular.

What do you like about Beautycounter products?

I love knowing what I’m putting on myself and my family is safe (in fact the Beautycounter mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone). I don’t worry if I am compromising my health, or the health of my family, in the name of beauty. But our products are not only safer, they perform wonderfully as well.

Tell me about how you got involved doing direct sales with Beautycounter? How does it work?

The short answer is butt cream, but that probably needs an explanation… On a whim, I purchased our Baby Balm because my son was prone to bad rashes. After using our Baby Balm, they all but disappeared, and it got me thinking about all the products I had tried before and wondering if the ingredients in them were making his rashes worse. I signed up a few days later and it’s been fun, rewarding, and empowering.

The Beautycounter story is best told person to person, so Beautycounter made a conscious decision to sell our products through independent consultants. Since we do a lot of work in Washington trying to get stricter laws on the books regarding regulation in the industry, the Beautycounter opportunity is especially great in that it combines social activism, personal empowerment, and lucrative compensation. Personally, I love using different avenues to educate people about our mission: one-on-ones, social media, socials/girls’ nights, etc.

Why do you like the Purifying Charcoal Mask?

I LOVE this mask! It really helps improve the skin’s overall condition by refining the appearance of pores and increasing elasticity. It exfoliates, draws out impurities, decongests my skin, and calms irritation, leaving behind a clear, even toned complexion. I always tell my clients to try it as an overnight spot treatment for blemishes, too.

What are some other Beautycounter products that you swear by?

  • The Baby Balm, of course! It is my go-to new baby gift!
  • Our face oils. They are best-sellers and have a cult-following. Plant-based oils actually combat oil production, and you will see results quickly.
  • Our sunscreen. The sticks are super convenient and come in two sizes (I keep a smaller one in my car to put on the back of my hands as I’m driving). We have a cream as well which I keep in my beach bag!
  • The Cleansing Balm. It is also a go-to because of its versatility: cleanser, makeup remover, cuticle treatment, overnight hydrating mask…it can also be used for eczema and melasma. Everyone needs a jar of this stuff.
  • Our lip sheers. As for makeup, I was, admittedly, a strictly gloss girl, until I discovered our lip sheers. They are lightweight yet ultra-moisturizing. They smell divine and come in beautiful colors which flatter every skin tone.
